This is NOT a test (but yes, that was me)

Hi Reader,

Yesterday was… not my best day.

If you got a weird “test” email or a video link that didn’t work—yep, that was me. (Well, me and the assistant I was trying to train.) I’ve been working on hiring help to free up more time… but clearly, I chose the wrong person. She sent a test message to my entire list.

My inbox blew up. And honestly? I’m glad it did. Your replies reminded me that you’re actually out there reading—and rooting for me. Thank you.

On top of that, I’m in the middle of major (and expensive) home repairs. I live in a duplex and rent out the other half, but right now there’s tension with my tenant because of the construction. It’s been a lot.

And then—because of course everything happens at once—my piano tuner showed up. He’s lovely, but when he’s working, I can’t work. My whole routine got thrown off. When he finished and said he wasn’t going to charge me—because he knows how hard things have been—I burst into tears. In front of him. It was mortifying.

So when the broken emails went out on top of all that, it felt like too much.

The irony? That same day, someone in my piano community had asked me how to recover from mistakes during performance. We talked about it in our live Q&A this morning, and I realized… that’s actually something I do know how to handle.

So today I sat down and made two videos—one about editing (coming tomorrow), and one clip from our Q&A about what to do when things go wrong in performance.

Turns out, whether it’s performance or marketing, progress takes time, compassion, and a little grace.

Thanks for sticking with me through it all.

Warmly,

Rebecca

Hi Reader, I just spent an hour and a half editing a 22-second video. Watch it here: Why? Because I’m switching to new video editing software: DaVinci Resolve. CapCut—my old program—updated its Terms of Service to give themselves the right to own and use anything I create on their platform. Forever. I don't want to see myself showing up in an ad. Or worse yet, they sell my footage to a competitor. So I’m learning new software that gives me full control, even if it’s painfully slow at first. It...

Hi Reader, We just passed 105 members inside Piano with Rebecca B! 🎉 And this week, I got a fun little surprise—Skool awarded me a “Top 1% Community Builder” star. Of course I’m thrilled the group is growing—but what really makes me happy is the kind of support and beauty happening inside.Just this morning, a young member—probably still in high school—performed all three of his Level 7 ABRSM exam pieces live on Zoom. After playing, he simply asked: “What can I improve?” Two of our members,...

Hi Reader, Things have been hard lately. I’ve been dealing with big house repairs (think 6 digits) and a very difficult tenant (think lots of legal research). It’s been stressful, and I’ve cried more than once. My bedroom in full dust protection mode But teaching piano helps me feel okay again. It’s something I know how to do.It brings joy to others. And it brings me peace too. Music is what keeps me steady—and what I want to help you with too. Thank you for reading these emails and watching...
